During World War II in the period of March 17, 1944 to April 12, 1945, the city of Vienna, Austria, was bombed fifty-two times. 87,000 houses of the city were lost, only 41 civilian vehicles survived the raids, more than 3,000 bomb craters were counted and nearly 500 hundred people were killed. Most of the victims have never been unearthed and to the memory of those whom lost their lives, the monument was erected.
