William Venoy Stephens, 80, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001.

He was born May 3, 1921, a son of the late Joel E. and Gertrude Simmons Stephens. He served in the Army paratroopers in Europe during World War II. He became a home builder in 1946 and operated Stephens Builders Supply in Tabor City, N.C., until 1985. He was a member of Tabor City Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, B. Rex Stephens of Wilmington, N.C., and M. Kent Stephens of Houston; four grandsons, W. Christopher Stephens of Wilmington, Warren T. Stephens of Hillsborough, N.C., and Michael Craig Stephens and Rhett Clemons Stephens, both of Columbia; and six grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Willard and Eugene; and two sisters, Lila and Leone.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Inman Funeral Home in Tabor City. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Myrtle Green Cemetery in Tabor City.
