Carl E Hammer was the son of Johanne Paul Ludwig Hammer and Lucie Catharine Herbst. He was born in Germany and at the age of 19 years he came to America and settled near Silver City, where he lived until his death on October 8, 1921.
On 30 May 1874 he was united in marriage with Mary Anna Deitchler, daughter of John and Charlotte Deitchler. They were the parents of nine children, one dying in infancy. Known children are Martha Caroline (Jones), Minnie Sophie (Schoening), Vena (Asmussen), Charles, John, Louis, Clara, and Herbert.
Carl died at his home in 1921 at the age of 76 years.
