Born in Hanover(Madison), Jefferson County, Indiana, to Jesse and Hettie(Harriett Eliza Nay) Housefield in 1923. After graduating high school, he went to work for Scotts 5& 10 in Madison as a stock boy. He then served in the Navy during WWII as a 2nd class Pharmacist's Mate in the South Pacific. Upon returning after the war, Scotts 5 & 10 offered him an Assistant Manager position at the Harlan, Kentucky store. It was there where he met Jewell Ball, who was working as a clerk. They were married and moved to Clinton, SC where Maurice had been promoted to a Manager with Scotts. They were married for 64 years and had two children - Michael Wayne Housefield, and Patricia Lynn Housefield. They had one Grandson, Christopher William Ginn, who they loved as their own. They also had one Great Grandson, Christopher Lee Ginn, who brought them great joy for the five years they knew him. Maurice worked as a Manager for Scotts until his retirement. He then worked for RGIS Inventory company for 10 years and then as a Night Auditor for Super 8 Motels until the age of 86.
He worked hard, would give you the shirt off his back, and often had a witty saying and a twinkle in his eye. He was a great father.
