THE TILLER AND TOILER
Larned, Kansas
Friday, September 18, 1914

Mrs. Caroline Geffs, daughter of Levi and Emily Bennett, was born in Clark County, Illinois, Feb. 10, 1861, died Sept. 10, 1914, at her home near Garfield. She was united in marriage to Mr. James Geffs on December 14, 1890, and to this union six children were born, one of whom, Stella Ethel, died in infancy. Her husband and five children: Erwin Walter, Edith Edna, Goldie Grace, Maudie Irene and Jacob Levi, survive her.

In the year 1889, she united with the Christian church and continued in that faith until the time of her death.

The funeral services were held in the Swedish Lutheran church at Garfield on Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and were conducted by Rev. W.E. Dull of the Garfield Congregational church. Mr. Dull took for his text the passage of scripture: "In my Father's house are many mansions. I go to prepare a place for you..." The remains were laid to rest in the Garfield cemetery.

Those in attendance from out of town were: John Bennett, Annis Barrett, Mr. and Mrs. Will Barrett, Joe Barrette, and Virgie Barrette.

The family have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement.

Mrs. Geffs was one of a family of twenty children and when her mother died, there were five children younger than herself, one an infant in arms. Mrs. Geffs remained at home until these were all grown up and was not only a sister to them, but a mother as well. Her noble traits of character were evidenced throughout her life and she was loved and respected by all who knew her.
