Mrs. Dessa Elizabeth Combs, 83, 203 E. Chestnut, Box 131, Allerton and formerly of Casey, died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday (April 17, 1999) at the Covenant Hospital in Urbana. She was a retired sales manager at Carson Pirie Scott of Urbana and Courson Hardware of Homer.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Allerton with the Rev. Carl Fox officiating. Pall bearers will be Derrick Ennis, Damon Ennis, Larry Updegraff, Dennis Updegraff, Ray Updegraff and Paul Anderson. Burial will follow in Casey Washington Street cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. this evening at Markwell's Funeral Home in Casey and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.

Mrs. Combs was born July 22, 1915, in Clark County, the daughter of Grover Ansel and Stella Seaton Updegraff. She married Max Combs on June 18, 1934, in Clark County.

Survivors include her husband of Allerton; one sister, Pauline Ennis of Allerton; and one brother, Dallas Updegraff of Casey. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry, Marvin, Bruce and Willy Updegraff.

She attended the Allerton United Methodist Church. Mrs. Combs was a graduate of the Casey High School Class of 1933. She was a member of the O. E. S. Chapter #260 of Newman.

The family suggests, for those who wish, memorial may be made to the United Methodist Church in Allerton.
