Agnes was married to Oliver Halgunseth of Abercrombie, North Dakota, until his death in 1978. She was member of the Abercrombie Evangelical Lutheran Church for over 50 years and served that congregation in a number of roles to include choir member, Sunday school teacher, and President of the Ladies Aid. She wrote and performed faith-based inspirational readings on a local radio station.
She worked commercially as a cook and, in the 1970's, won the title of Mrs. North Dakota in the Wesson Oil Chicken cooking contest. She represented North Dakota in the national competition. Mrs. Halgunseth was possessed of a quick wit, as well as a loving heart. Local seniors may recall her riotous stage renderings of the old Norwegian skit "The Sugna Chatting." She will be remembered for her compassionate counseling to friends in need and for the excellent example she set.
Agnes is preceded in death by her husband and all of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her three sons; Oliver Jr.(Sharon) of Utica, MI, Gary (Aurora) of Boerne, TX, Ronald of Minneapolis, MN, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
