Thank you Nancy (Hitchcoc) Clewell for all of your help on the relatives in Aux Sable cemetery.

David Leander Mossman, age 93, of 1928 Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach, California, passed away at his home on October 24 1938. He was born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, October 4 1845; moved with his parents to Illinois, and later to Benton County, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He enlisted and served in Company F, Ninth Illinois Cavalry, served until the close of the war and was honorably discharged. He was married in 1866 to Mary E. Sergeant and they celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary in 1926.
He was twice commander and last survivor of Lenington Post No 227, G.A.R. of Chadron, Nebraska, and since coming to Long Beach has been a member of Post 181 of this city. He pioneered in Kansas in the early settlement of that state, and moved to Dawes County, Nebraska in 1886, where he farmed and did carpenter work for a number of years, then worked for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad until he retired in 1923 and moved to Long Beach.
Mr. Mossman was of Scotch descent, and could trace his ancestry back to the twelfth century.
He was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church soon after coming to Nebraska, over fifty years ago. Old settlers will well remember the part he took in building up the church in the new community.
He sang in church choirs in Nebraska until he reached the age of 75 years.
On coming to Long Beach in 1923, he united with the Atlantic Avenue Methodist church where he was a faithful attendant as long as he was able.
Late in life, Mr. Mossman was married to Mrs. Luro Prouse [Prowse], who passed away in 1933. She, too, was a member of the Atlantic Avenue Methodist Church.
Surviving him are three daughters, Dr. Nellie Mossman, Mae M. Gier, Minnie Eldridge, all of Long Beach, California; six grandchildren, L. V. Mossman, Vintura, California; Hazel M. Welch, Carhichael, Mississippi; Miss B. H. Mossman, Long Beach; Winfred L., Harry M., and James L. Gier, all of Long Beach; and nine great grandchildren.
