He was a U.S.Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 24th (Victory) Infantry Division in the South Pacific with a 37mm Anti-tank gun crew. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, and other medals and ribbons.
He met Joan, his wife, in 1951 and they married on February 23, 1952. She preceded him in death on October 16th, 2002. They had 4 children, 2 of them preceded them both in death, Nancy Ellen & David Charles Steele.
Ralph also was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Martha Boone, brothers: Paul & Chester.
He enjoyed reading, gardening, and flying small airplanes. Over the years he had owned a variety of small planes, including a Tripacer, Aeronica, Cessna, and an Ercoupe.
He retired from Johns Manville in Waterville, Ohio.
