A funeral mass for Doris Evelyn Gruner Elzen will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Minden, Louisiana.
Visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m., today at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden. A rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m.
A lifelong resident of Minden, Mrs. Elzen died Saturday, January 14. She was born April 15, 1925, in Minden.
Mrs. Elzen, affectionatley known as "Mammaw" to most, will be remembered by her family and friends as a loving and caring woman. she was a gifted seamstress and had a green thumb that produced a yard full of beautiful blooms year after year. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who also loved spending time with her, as she always had a house full of snacks, sweets and love.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Walter Gruner.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Fred Thomas "Tony" Elzen, Sr.; sons, Fred Thomas Elzen, Jr. and wife Kay of Minden, Walter Rodney Elzen and wife Jonna of Collierville, Tenn., and Kenneth Don Elzen and wife Debra of Tyler, Texas; sister, Mary Grace McEachern of Jefferson, Texas; grandchildren, Amy Rudd and husband Robert, Courtney Moro and husband Jeremy, Whitney Howell and husband Jeff, Chris Elzen and Jennifer Elzen; and great-grandchildren, Ellyot Hites, Katie Hites, Savannah Moro and Jame Moro.
Pallbearers will be Ken Burnham, Jr., Tommy Elshout, William Hilburn, Bob Igo, Jerry Rogers and Albert Tucker.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Benton, Jr., Al Carter, Doug Cupples, Dr. Phil Hendry, Verle Hulse, Gary McEachern and Don Toelkes.
