It was one of those strange twists of fate that both father and son would die the same day many miles apart. Edgar Diem (49) died suddenly at the Veteran's Home in Yountville. His father Harvey Diem (82) who had been a Southern Pacific railroad worker for many years, long retired and living in Redding, California, died the same day as his son (per article in the Roseville Tribune, Nov. 1939).
