PETERSBURG - John Joseph Wood, 63, of Petersburg passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was born on April 2, 1949 in Springfield to Joseph and Lois (Sullivan) Wood. He married Patricia Hudspeth.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Petersburg; two sons, Phillip (Nolan) Hudspeth of Greenview and Joe (Tasha) Wood of Petersburg; a daughter, Erica (Andrew) Sponsler of Athens; a stepdaughter, Bobbie (Dan) Horn of Greenview; one brother, Jeff Wood of Springfield; two sisters, Judy (Dave) Hollis of Petersburg and Jane Wood of Springfield; an uncle, John Sullivan of Springfield; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Wood was a lifelong farmer, and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of First Christian Church of Petersburg, Clinton Lodge #19 AF & AM, and Greenview AMVETS. He loved golf, NASCAR, Cardinal baseball, and John Deere tractors.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 6, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Greenview United Church with Rev. Stephanie McCullough officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 5, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Barnes Jewish Hospital. Memorial messages may be left for his family at www.hurleyfh.com.
