Chico Record, Chico, CA, Wednesday, Jul 1, 1942, pg 8: "Mary E. Summers, Long Time Chico Resident, Passes --- Mrs. Mary E. Summers, 86, well known resident of Chico since 1901, succumbed yesterday afternoon at 5:40 o'clock at her home on Stewart Avenue, after an illness of long duration.
"Mrs. Summers was a native of Randolph County, Missouri and was born September 1, 1855. She was married Feb. 13, 1876 in Macon, Missouri to her late husband, Johnson Summers, who preceded her in death, Oct. 20 of last year. Mr. Summers was interested in farming both in Missouri and later in Chico until his retirement some years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Summers came with their family to make their home in Chico on Stewart Avenue in 1901 and have lived there ever since.
"Mrs. Summers was a member of the Christian Church of Chico. She is survived by three children: Mrs. Florence Almstead, of Chico; Mrs. J.W. McDaniel, of Chico, and Luther Summers, also of Chico; two grandchildren, Lee Trumbo, of Chester, and Mrs. F.E. Martin of Burney, and two great grandchildren, Leland Trumbo of Chico and Bobbie Jean Martin, of Burney.
