Married to Kate B. Way 6/25/1920.
Herbert A. Way, 92, of 282 4th Ave., Troy, NY, who retired July 1, 1952, as a linotype operator for The Record Newspapers after 60 years as a printer, died Tuesday at the Leonard Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Way was born in Bridgeport, Conn., son of the late Carleton and Gertrude French Way, and had resided in Troy for 48 years.
Mr. Way, who began his career on the Bridgeport (Conn.) Post in June 1892, was linotype operator for The Saratogian for 18 years. He then came to The Troy Record, working nights on the ad machine and after a few years of night work he became a linotype operator for The Times Record and worked for the afternoon paper from then until his retirement.
He joined the Typographical Union No. 52 on Jan. 29, 1899, received his 50-year union pin in 1949 and his 60-year pin in 1959. At the time of his 90th birthday on June 25, 1966, he held open house at his home and was visited by many friends on this special occasion. His picture was taken by The Record as he sat alongside a bouquet which had been sent him by the Troy Typographical Union, holding his 50 and 60-year membership pins. He said at that time that he was looking forward to receiving his 70-year pin in 1969.
He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and King Solomon Lodge, No.97, F&AM.
Mr. Way is survived by his wife, the former Kate B. Boyce whom he married on June 25, 1920, and a nephew, Royal Way of Miami, Fla.
The funeral was held from the Mason Funeral Home, 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh, with Rev. Millard Aubey Jr., pastor of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Interment in Greenridge Cemetery, Saratoga.
