Oscar Erwin Shearer, 79, of Knox City died at 5:35 Saturday afternoon (May 05 1979) in a Kirksville Hospital where he had been a patient since May 03.

The son of John and Anna Long Shearer, he was born Mar 01, 1900 in Shelby County. On Sept 8 1920 at Edina he married Lydia Marie Davis who preceded him in death on Mar 05 1962. On April 29, 1964 in Edina he married Ida Strickler Oldfather who survives. Also surviving are one son, Carl Stanley Shearer; one step-son Harry Pearl Oldfather, one step-daughter, Mrs. Vernon (Ruth Maurine) Zuspann, one sister Mae Hunt, two grandchildren, two step-grandsons, two step-granddaughters, two great-grandsons and one step-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by one sister Opal Newkirk and one brother John Shearer.

Mr. Shearer spent most of his life northwest of Novelty where he was engaged in farming. Fifteen years ago he retired and moved to Edina. Later he moved to Knox City to make his home. He was a member of the Knox City Christian Church.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon (May 08 1979) at one o'clock in Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Edina. Dr. Dale A Jorgenson of Kirksville will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Locust Hill Cemetery west of Novelty.
