Hall of Fame College Football Player and Coach. Langdon played football for Princeton University as a tackle. In his freshman year the Princeton Tigers were considered the national champions, defeating the Yale Bulldogs and had a perfect record of 11-0. Lea was an All-American in 1894, 1895 and 1896. In 1895 he was the captain of the team. In 1899 he was the unofficial head coach of Princeton's football team. In 1900 he was hired by Michigan and led them to a 7-2-1 record. In 1901 he returned to Princeton as the head football coach. He coached Princeton for only 1 year. His overall coaching record was 16–3–2. Lea had 3 sons Gilbert, Langdon Jr., and Francis that all played football for Princeton University. After his coaching career he ran the Cannelton Coal Company in West Virginia, one of his father's companies. In 1964 Lea was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a player.
