MERTENS, Edwin Henry Mertens of 255 Waite Street, Eugene, died July 9, 1972. He was born November 15, 1896 in Crete, Illinois, moving to Texas as a small child with his family. He had been a resident of Eugene for the past 29 years.

Husband of Amy E.; father of Christine Richman and Virginia McIntyre, both of Eugene; step-father of John E. Hummell of Curtis, Nebraska; four sisters in Texas; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; four step-grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren.

He was a member of Eugene Lodge No. 11 AF & AM; Eugene York Rite Bodies; Willamette Court No. 2 Order of Amaranth; V.F.W. Barracks No. 33; Retired Business Agent for Carpenters Local No. 1273; and a long-time member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary; a Veteran of World War I.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 12, at 2 p.m. in Lounsbury-Musgrove Funeral Chapel with Dr. Carlton Buck officiating. Concluding services Lane Memorial Gardens, Eugene Lodge No. 11 conducting Masonic Rites. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Knights Templar Eye Foundation in care of the Chapel.
