From The Greenville Advocate, November 15, 1899:

"Thomas C. Crenshaw, Sr., second son of Anderson Crenshaw, the first Chancellor elected in Alabama, died at home on Cedar Creek on the 10th. He was born in Alabama before it became a state in December 1818. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama, and an old line Whig. He was survived by 3 daughters and 2 sons, Col. Tom C. and C. P. Crenshaw. Burial was on the Ridge."

Note: Thomas Chiles Crenshaw was actually born in Newberry District, South Carolina, where his parents lived until moving to Alabama in the fall of 1819. His birth entry is in the Anderson Crenshaw family bible, in the handwriting of Anderson Crenshaw: "Their 2nd son Thomas Chiles Crenshaw was born at Newberry, South Carolina on the 22nd Decr. 1818."

Thomas Chiles Crenshaw's grave was unmarked until fall 1941, when his daughter, Ann Lee Crenshaw O'Neal (1862-1956), had headstones placed on 3 family graves in the Crenshaw family cemetery: to her father Thomas, mother Lucinda, and sister Frances. [Source: Thaddeus Henry Crenshaw III diary, 1941]
