John P. "Jack" Corderman passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at the age of 70 after a brief illness. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.
Born May 14, 1942, in Hagerstown, Jack was the son of Gertrude P. Carder and the late John E. Corderman.
He led a rich and diverse life. After graduating from North Hagerstown High School and Hagerstown Junior College, he received his bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland College Park in 1965 followed by a Juris Doctorate from the University of Maryland School of Law (with honors) in 1968.
He began a dedicated career as a law clerk for Thomas B. Finan of the Maryland Court of Appeals in Annapolis from 1968 to 1969. He then returned to Hagerstown, where he joined and later became a partner at the law practice of Wagaman, Wagaman and Meyers. During this time, he also served as deputy state's attorney for Washington County from 1971 to 1974, and was a Maryland state senator from 1975 to 1977.
In 1977, Jack was appointed associate judge of the Circuit Court of Washington County, where he served with dignity, fairness and impartiality until 1993. Jack spent the next 17 years again practicing law in Hagerstown except for serving one year as the attorney general of the Republic of Palau in 1996.
Jack cared deeply about his family and friends, and was dedicated to supporting those close to him.
He is survived by Ann, his wife of nearly 46 years; his daughter, Elizabeth; son, Paul, and daughter-in-law, Kerri; son, Robert, daughter-in-law, Jill; and three grandchildren, Devon, Jack and Piper. He is also survived by his mother, Gertrude Carder; sister, Suzanne Wood; brother-in-law, Robert Wood; and stepmother, Esther Corderman.
Jack was committed to service in his community, having worked with many organizations including Jaycees of Hagerstown, YMCA of Hagerstown, Humane Society of Washington County and Rotary Club (member, president and district governor). He also was a member of the American, Maryland and Washington County bar associations, having served as Maryland State Bar Association president and having also served on the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association.
He was a longtime member of the Maryland Terrapin Club, and enjoyed spending many weekends with his family cheering on the Terps.
Jack, a friend of Bill W. for 30 years, dedicated himself to bringing inspiration and hope to others on the road to recovery.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Tri-State Fellowship, 13153 Cearfoss Pike, Hagerstown, Md. The Rev. Dr. Randy A. Buchman will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Friends may call Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
