Thomas L. Shank, 75, formerly of Devola, Ohio, passed away Monday (Dec. 15, 2008) at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

Tom was born on March 16, 1933, in Dayton, Ohio, to Donald and Edith Sprague Shank and moved to Lowell while in high school. Following graduation from Lowell, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he advanced to the rank of captain. Tom married his first wife, Jean, while stationed in Germany. Following his retirement from the Air Force he returned to Lowell to raise his family. Tom was the manager of the Sears and Roebuck store in Marietta for 20 years and was active in the Marietta Lions Club and the Marietta Chamber of Commerce. He was also a founder and active volunteer for the Lowell Octoberfest. He was a member of the Beverly United Methodist Church.

Tom is survived by his stepmother, Eloise Shank of Dayton, Ohio; his wife, Nancy Shank, of Pennsboro, W.Va., whom he married on Oct. 9, 2004; and his five children, Thomas L. Shank II of Lowell, Ohio, Dr. DeAnna Frye and her husband, Dean, of North Royalton, Ohio, Lisa Merriman and her husband, Doug, of Prospect, Conn., Krista Baldwin and her husband, Tom, of Atlanta, Ga., and Brett Shank of Marietta. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren. He is also survived by his step siblings, Dr. Susan Dyer and her husband, Dr. Bryan Dyer, of Dayton, Ohio, and Robert Fryman and his wife, Carla, of Riceville, Tenn.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Schwendeman; his second wife, Pauline Combs Shank; and his grandson, B. Dean Frye Jr.

Friends may call at McCullough & Rogers Funeral Home at 447 West Myles, Pennsboro, W.Va., from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Beverly United Methodist Church at 700 Park St., Beverly, Ohio.
