A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday for Carl Eustace Cox, retired barber and former checker champion of Fredericksburg, who died of a heart attack Sunday at his home, 612 Spottswood Street.

He was the owner of Cox's Modern Shaving parlor on Caroline Street, where he had been a barber for 50 years until his retirement in 1953. He was widely known as a turkey hunter and retired undefeated in 1948 as the city's checker champion.

A native of Brookville, PA, the 66-year-old widower was a member of the Elks lodge, Pythian lodge and an honorary member of the Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving him are two sons, Carl E. Cox, Jr. and H. Wilmore Cox; two daughters, Mrs. Madeline Preston and Mrs. Elizabeth Dameron; and three grandchildren. All are Fredericksburg residents.

Dr. Robert F. Caverlee and the Rev. J. Howard Cates will conduct the service in the Wheeler & Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be L. J. Williamson, Charles S. Powell, Kussner Bauman, W. B. F. Cole, Richard Sullivan and Warrick Foster. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Elks lodge, Pythian
