Obituary:
George W. McDaniel was born in Shelby county, Illinois, April 9, 1854 where he grew to manhood, became converted and joined the Christian church. In the early eighties he came west and located at Caldwell, Kansas where he was engaged in business for a number of years. In 1883 he was united in marriage to Miss Ida M. Hinsey at Caldwell, and to this union, three children were born, only one of whom survive, Geo. D. McDaniel of Arkansas City, Kansas.

During the summer of 1885 the family moved to Anthony, Kansas, where he suffered the loss of his wife in 1887. In the year 1888 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Rachel Knouse, at Anthony, who has been a faithful and devoted wife since that time and survives him. To this union seven children were born, only four of whom are yet living: Mrs. Rhea Herschberger, of Medford, Oklahoma, Orville M. McDaniel, Everett C. McDaniel and Mrs. Neata Bratcher all of Jet. Besides these children, two stepsons, Chas. H. Knouse of Arkansas City, Kansas, and Emro Knouse, of Harper, Kansas, three sisters and eleven grandchildren, survive.

When the Cherokee Strip was opened for settlement in 1893, deceased made the run and secured a claim in the vicinity of Jet, where he has since resided. During his residence at Anthony he was a member of the M. E. church, but when the time came for the organization for the church of his choice in the then new country, deceased transferred his membership to the local Christian church, and has been an active worker until his health failed, since which time he has been unable to attend the services but has always given the church work and all other worthy causes his kindly counsel.

Deceased has been a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for many years, and in his daily life exemplified the teachings of the order in which he spent many years of service.

After a lingering illness, covering a period of several months George W. McDaniel, passed to his reward at 12:15 p.m., Saturday, September 20, 1924, aged 70 years, 5 months and 11 days.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church, Sunday, Sept. 21, 1924, and the remains tenderly laid away in Jet Cemetery, the I.O.O.F being in charge of the services at the grave. Rev. Geo. Jones officiated at the church services which were held at 3:00 p.m.
