Carl P. Greene Sr., 85, of Palatka died Thursday at Putnam Memorial Nursing Home in Palatka following a long illness.
A native of Columbia County, he had lived in Palatka for 46 years, coming from Jacksonville. He retired as a police officer from the city of Jacksonville in 1946 after 20 years of service. He also retired as an electrician from the former Hudson Pulp and Paper Corp. in Palatka in 1973 after 26 years of employment; he was instrumental in starting the Hudson Employee Death Benefit Fund and the organization of the Georgia-Pacific Credit Union there. He was a member of the West Jacksonville Advent Christian Church in Jacksonville and a member of Palatka Lodge No. 34, F&AM.

He is survived by his wife, Mable Griffin Greene of Palatka; a daughter, Betty G. Huber of Palatka; a son, Carl P. Greene Jr. of Palatka; two sisters, Bertie Lewis of Jacksonville and Ethel Dedge of Jasper; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka with the Rev. Kenneth Olsen officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted at the funeral home by Palatka Lodge No. 34, F&AM. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, with a committal service at 2 p.m.
