OPELOUSAS — Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday for Rev. John Berry Brock Sr., 87, retired Baptist minister of Opelousas, who died at 10:20 p.m. Monday at his home.

Services were held at the First Baptist Church with Rev. U.S. Aswell, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Myrtle Grove Cemetery under direction of Lafond and Son Funeral Home.

The Rev. Mr. Brock was born Dec. 5, 1874, in Fayetteville, Ark. He graduated in 1896 from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Tex., and four years later received his degree in theology at Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Ky.

He came to Opelousas immediately after graduation and served the local church as pastor several times. The Rev. Mr. Brock founded the Baptist church in Plaquemine and held pastorates in Natchitoches, Many, Welsh, Zwolle and Melville. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of Opelousas, whom he married in 1902; two sons, Edwin Brock, Baton Rouge, and John B. Brock Jr., Plaquemine; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Fletcher, Natchitoches, and Mrs. John C. Davis, Sulphur, and two sisters.
