Ponca City - Evelyn J. Bays, 45, died Monday. Services pending. Trout. (Tulsa World)
-----------------------------
Evelyn Bays passed away in death July 30, 2012 at the age of 45 having very recently been diagnosed with leukemia. Evelyn was born December 24, 1966 to Richard and Dina vandenBerg in Canadaigua, New York. She moved to Oklahoma in 1987 to be near her older sister, Jolanda. On April 24, 1988 Evelyn married Robert Bays in Canadaigua, NY. Their first years of marriage were spent in Fairfax, OK. Shortly before the birth of their twin sons, Ryan and Alec in April of 1994 they moved to Ponca City, OK. In May of 2000 the family expanded to include son Jadon Bays.

Evelyn enjoyed many passions, she loved spending time with her nephews and nieces, helping her family and friends arrange parties to celebrate babies, weddings, and graduations or assisting them when they needed help. Being an avid crafter, she was always looking for new ways to use scrap material and new receipes to share. In the spring, she could be found working in the flower garden or raising fresh vegetables. As a member of the Professionals Today she had used her creative and organizational skills. The annual ski trip was a highlight for quality time with family and friends. Evelyn's main passion in life was the many hours spent sharing with others her beliefs as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

She was preceeded in death by great-niece Deunan Bouchard. She is survived by husband, Robert Bays and sons Ryan, Alec, and Jadon of Ponca City, OK; her parents Richard and Dina vandenBerg, of Fairfax, OK; sisters Jolanda Bain, and husband Bernie of Fairfax, OK, Lillian Yacuzzo, and husband Tony of Prattsburg, NY; brother Richard vandenBerg and wife Brianna of Sanford, Maine. Nephews and nieces and their spouses Able and Brandy Bain, Peter Yacuzzo, Caleb Bain, Anthony Yacuzzo, Anna and Marvin Bouchard, Gideon and Tia Bain, Cecilia and Matthew Gomez, Sage vanden Berg, Paul Yacuzzo, Jace vandenBerg, and Lilly Yacuzzo. As well as many other extended family, and close friends. In lieu of flowers or live plants, her surviving young men request donations in Evelyn's name to the Opportunity Center, where she was employed; the Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, or to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. All gestures of sympathy are appreciated and warmly welcomed.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, August 4 at 3:00 p.m. at the Poncan Theatre, 104 E. Grand, Ponca City, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the care of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory of Ponca City, Oklahoma.
