Mary Kathleen "Big Nana" Geany, sadly died May 1, as a result of a car accident in Plymouth.
Mrs. Geany was born in Cork City, Ireland on February 28, 1894, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James and Mary Ellen (Quinn) Murphy. She came to this country in her youth with her mother.
Mrs. Geany was first married to John J. O'Flaherty a native of Cork Ireland, who predeceased her in 1914. Mrs. Geany then married Mr. John Geany also a native of Cork Ireland who also predeceased her. She spent the majority of her married life, and raised her family on Elm Street in Cambridge.
She is survived by two sons, John D. Flaherty and his wife Mildred of Billerica, and James D. Geany and his wife Rene of Medford; She also leaves six daughters, Hannah T. Souza and her husband Manuel of Marshfield, Julia K. O'Brien and her husband William of Marshfield , Mary A. Walsh and her husband Thomas of Watertown, Bridget S. O'Neill and her husband Robert of Marshfield, and Elinor R. McFarland and her husband Thomas of Marshfield.
Mary was also the mother of the late William J. Geany who died in 1938.
Mrs. Geany is also survived by her 33 Grandchildren, Eleanor Flaherty, Maureen Flaherty, Linda Flaherty, Robert Flaherty, John Flaherty Jr., James Flaherty, Donald Flaherty, Richard Flaherty, Raymond Geany, James Geany, John Geany, Mary Geany, Phyllis Geany, Mary Roche, Bridget "Kitty" Roche, Micheal Roche, William O'Brien Jr, Mary O'Brien, Mary Elizabeth Walsh, Sheila Walsh, Daniel Walsh, Robert O'Neill, John, O'Neill, James O'Neill, Mary Jo O'Neill, Susan O'Neill Anne Marie O'Neill, John McFarland, Timothy McFarland, Thomas McFarland, Mary Ellen McFarland, Anne McFarland, and Elinore McFarland.
