Champion Race Horse. Named after the Boston brain surgeon who saved the life of his trainer, John Nerud, he went on to win 18 of his 22 starts. His victories include the Cowdin Stakes, the Withers Stakes, the Hawthorne Gold Cup, the Gotham Stakes, the Arlington Classic, the Vosburgh Stakes, the Suburban Handicap, the Californian Stakes, the Roseben Handicap, the United Nations Handicap, the Brooklyn Handicap, Whitney Handicap, and the Washington Park Handicap. He also won the following awards: the American Champion Sprint Horse, the DRF American Champion Male Turf Horse, the American Champion Older Male Horse, and the American Horse of the Year. In 1971, he was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs, New York. His death at age 12 was attributed to an obstruction in his colon. He was buried at the Tartan Farm in Ocala, Florida which is now known as Winding Oaks Farm.
