John was a carpenter and died in Salem, where he had been working various construction jobs in the oil fields. Death was due to a heart ailment.
He was twice married. By his first wife, who is dead, he had four children: Miss Edith Hawkins, Mrs. Opal Oyler and Mrs. Otha Gammon, all of Decatur and W.O. Hawkins of Champaign. He married Elsie McKittrick in Lawrenceville, Ind. May 9, 1931. She survives with one child, John Wesley Hawkins of Decatur.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Cogal of Decatur, and Mrs. Ebva Day and Mrs. Emanuel Hendricks, both of Lane.
