Actor. Born in North Wales and a welsh speaker he appeared in many Hollywood films over four decades. He was best remembered as 'Sheik Ilderim' in the film epic "Ben-Hur" (1959), a role for which he won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. His other films included, "Mutiny On The Bounty" (1962), "Oliver!"(1968),"Legend of the Werewolf" (1975) and "The Hound of the Baskervilles" (1978).
