It appears they lived there for at least the next 17 years, however, may have been until around 1976 when they took up dual residence between California and Illinois. At some point they moved to Long Beach, California. It appears he lived there until his death in 1986.
According to city directories, he worked as a lathe operator and buffer for Muellers Company in the years of 1938-1957 in Decatur, Illinois. He worked for Muellers for 47 years. He was a member of Stephen Decatur Masonic Lodge #979 and St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Decatur, Illinois. He was very active in the Boy Scouts. Once he moved to California, he became active in the Wesley United Methodist Church.
Eldred married Florence Lucille Gowan on 23 Aug 1936 in Decatur, Illinois. Eldred had two children with Florence (Gerald and Lawrence). He died at the age of 78 at 8:00 A.M. on Wednesday, 8 Oct 1986 in Long Beach Community Hospital in Long Beach California. Funeral services were held on Saturday, 11 Oct 1986 at Wesley United Methodist Church. He was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress, California.
