During WWII, he served in USMC squadron VMD-154 at Camp Elrod, Espiritu Santo, New Hebrides (now Vanuatu) in the South Pacific. His brother, Uvie James "U.J." Beckham served with him in this same unit. At Camp Elrod, Jack was the NCOIC of Ground Defense. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1964 as a 1st Sgt.
Beckham then worked at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, CA. After retiring to Hemet, CA, he attended Mt. San Jancinto College.
