Margaret Shannon was born on September 3, 1833 in Ohio to John and Mary Stambaugh Shannon. At sometime between 1850 and 1860 they made the journey west to Illinois. On November 12, 1857 she married Horace Hancock in Tazewell County, Illinois. Margaret and Horace settled in Groveland, IL where they raised their children: Mary, John, George, and Charles. Margaret passed away there on December 10, 1882.
