On February 10, 1917 here in Gardner, John Heywood was married to Caroline Travers. His occupation entered on their marriage record was "game farming." Sadly, a year and half later he was dead. The death record had his home address as 117 Central Street in Gardner. His funeral was held at his mother's home at 16 Woodland Avenue.

John and Caroline had a daughter, Martha, born at their 117 Central St. home on June 1, 1918.
