Charles P. Owart, 68, well known painting contractor here and life-long resident of Manitowoc, died Sunday night at the St. Luke's hospital in Milwaukee. He was taken ill a week ago while in Milwaukee on a visit.


Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Wattawa, Urbanek & Schlei funeral home, the Rev. Paul Blaufus officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.


Mr. Owart was born here in 1872 and when a young man took up the painting business. He continued as a contractor in the city for over 40 years. He resided at 1206 South 11th street. He was a member of the Eagles and Royal League. Forty-four years ago he married Miss Mary Landt in this city. Mrs. Owart was fatally injured in an automobile accident nine years ago.


Mr. Owart is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Herbert Tech of this city, Mrs. Ray Rocque of Milwaukee, Mrs. Victor Vetting of Saginaw, Mich., three sons, Walter, Carl and Leroy, all of this city; and seven grandchildren.


The body may be viewed at the funeral home from Tuesday at 1 p.m. until the hour of the services.
