Charles Henry Gosnell was born 1 March 1874 in Lawrenceville, Lawrence County, Illinois to parents, James W Gosnell and Molly Caldona ALBERT Gosnell. His father died 11 Jan 1879 from malignant bilious fever when Charles was four, maybe five years of age. His mother died when he was around eight. A sister, Mary Jane Gosnell, born 3 Jan 1876 died 15 Oct 1882 at six years of age and a brother, Hardlem Caldona Gosnell born 21 Apr 1878 died 10 Sept 1879, age one year. At the age of four or five, he was taken into the home of his maternal Uncle Hores Greeley ALBERT and Sarah Caldona KERR Albert in Aurora, Missouri where he lived until he reached manhood when he married Ida E Stelle. Two children from this union were a son, Elmer Joseph Gosnell, born 29 May 1897, and a daughter Ada Frances Gosnell, born 1905. For awhile Charles worked in the coal mines in Cherokee County, Kansas and Eastern Oklahoma. Here, he contracted what was known as Black Lung in those days and lost one of his lungs from the disease. From there the family moved to Chelsea, Oklahoma where his wife Ida Stelle Gosnell died from a miscarriage 1908. Surviving children were her son, Elmer, then 12 years of age and 3 year old daughter, Ada Frances. After all this sadness, Charles bought interest in a cafe in Chelsea, Rogers County, Oklahoma with Elmer's cousin, Leonard Lockhart (Hannaford). Here he met Martha Elizabeth TATE Foster Peterson. She had two children from a previous marriage to John Foster. The children were Emma Eliza Foster, born 14 Dec 1889 and brother James Lewis Foster, born 14 Apr 1891. Her second husband was James W Peterson who came to America 1872 from Copenhagen, Denmark when he was twenty-one, Died 1905. From this marriage three daughters were born. Mary Elizabeth Peterson, born 28 April 1897, Viola Marie Peterson, born 5 June 1902 and Baby Hannah who died as a small child.
Charles and Martha were married 9 Sept 1909. They had two children, Earl Henry Gosnell, born 21 Dec 1910 at Nowata, Ok and Dortha Lee Gosnell, born 18 Aug 1914.
Charles Henry Gosnell died 5 Mar 1959 Bristow, Oklahoma and burial was at Tahlequah City Cemetery, Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
