WILLARD, Dec. 28 - Mr. and Mrs. John Eyler received a message from the War Department stating that their son, Pvt. John Robert Eyler, 19, was killed in action in Italy on Nov. 30. He had been wounded in action in October and had been evacuated to a hospital in North Africa by plane. He was discharged five weeks later and returned to active duty. On Nov. 29 he wrote a letter to his parents and sent his picture, saying he was returning to active duty. He was killed the next day. He entered service in February and had been overseas six months. Resides his parents he is survived by his wife, Phyllis, and a * son, John Robert, who reside at Galion. A sister, Mrs. Harris Postema, resides in Plymouth. WILLARD, March 2 - Funeral services for Robert Eyler, who was killed in action with the Ranger Battalion in Italy on Nov. 30, 1943 at the age of 20, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the family home on W. Willard-rd. The Rev. Will Ruppe, Wauseon, will officiate and burial is to be in New Haven Cemetery with the Secor Funeral Home in charge. Private Eyler was born in Willard, graduated from Willard High school in 1941 and entered service Feb. 12, 1943. Surviving are his widow, Phyllis; son, Robert and parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Eyler, all of Willard and a sister, Mrs. Harris Postema, Plymouth.
