Former Tiffin resident, Bernard C. Wise of Okeechobee, Fla., died Friday, April 14, 2000 at his daughter's home in Palm Springs, Fla. He was 78.
He was born in Bellevue Jan. 22, 1922 to Henry and Loretta (Roth) Wise. He married Dorothy Bork, May 8, 1943 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. She died July 29, 1975. On June 17, 1978 in West Palm Beach, Fla., he married Evelyn Pitts Benton. She survives in Okeechobee, Fla.
Other survivors include two sons, Bernard C. Wise Jr. of Perrysburg and Robert Wise of Tiffin; two daughters, Christine Wise of Palm Springs, Fla. and Mrs. Larry (Susan) Weinandy of Streetsboro; three stepsons, Gary and Glen Benton, both of Lake Worth, Fla. and David Benton of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Linda Clayton of Tampa, Fla.; four sisters, Mrs. Donald (Margaret) Kimmet of Kansas, Oh., Sister Marie Catherine Wise, RSM of Tiffin, Mrs. James (Emelda) Clouse of New Riegel, and Mrs. Bernard (Alma) Wurm of Bloomville; three brothers, Ambrose Wise of Tiffin, James Wise of McCutchenville, and Luke Wise of Republic; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Mr. Wise was preceded in death by a stepson, Steve Benton; a brother, Louis Wise, and three sisters, Kathleen and Henrietta Wise, and Adaline Heitz.
Mr. Wise, who retired as a mechanic from R.D. Buick in Tiffin, later worked as a mechanic at Roger Dean Chevrolet in West Palm Beach, Fla. A resident of Tiffin until 1972, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m.in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Bernard C. Wise Family Fund. The Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, Tiffin, was in charge of the final arrangements.
