She was born May 5, 1930, in Warren, the daughter of Lloyd and Clara (Tompkins) Ashley and had been an Ashtabula Harbor resident for 40 years, moving to Texas to live with her daughter in 2006.
She worked for Geneva Rubber and the Outdoor Army Navy Store.
A longtime member and former treasurer of St. Joseph Mission Church, Our Lady of Miracles, she was proud that her husband, Dominic, helped construct much of the altar and choir loft at the church. A member of the MDM Society, she enjoyed baking and cooking for church functions. She also served as a girl scout leader and enjoyed crocheting dolls, afghans, potholders and Santas.
While in Texas, she was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, where she had many friends who will miss her.
Her survivors include three daughters, Cheryl (Joseph) Greenawalt of Crowley, Texas, Deena (David) Snyder of Monongahela, Pa., and Bonnie Griffith of Ashtabula; two step-children, Bernadette Augustine and Louis Ventura, both of Geneva; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Carl Ashley of Ashtabula, Richard Ashley of Louisiana and Dennis Ashley of Pennsylvania; six sisters, Joyce Meyers and Freda Boudria, both of Arizona, Alice Mick of Jefferson, Olive "Dolly" Frazee of Florida, Judy Jewell of Dorset and Sheila Gutzman of Alaska; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dominic on May 19, 1984; two brothers, Roger Ashley in 2002 and Joseph Ashley in infancy; and her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. on Friday, April 16th, at St. Joseph Mission Church, Our Lady of Miracles, 4317 West Ave., Ashtabula. Fr. Philip Miller will preside. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 15th, at the ZABACK-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
