Birdy K. Faidley, age 90 of rural Prairie City, died Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City with burial following at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 29, 2012, from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Birdy Kathryn Faidley was born in Leighton, Iowa on April 10, 1922. She was the third of five children born to Tjebbe Durk and Anne (Kooyman) Beintema. She attended Leighton Grade School and graduated from Pella High School with the class of 1940. She taught rural schools in Marion and Mahaska Counties. On May 6, 1944, she was united in marriage with Leland C. Faidley. To this union four children were born: Robert Leland, Verla Ann, April Joy, and Terry Durk.

The family lived on a Century Farm southeast of Colfax. She was a member of the The National Grange for over 50 years and held offices in local and state Granges. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, cross stitching, other crafts and traveling. Over many years, she donated hundreds of stuffed toys that she had made for charity. Birdy was also a 4-H club leader and a member of the Golden Rule Women's Club.

Those left to honor her memory are her children, Verla Van Scoy of Clinton, Iowa, Dr. April Faidley and her husband Dr. Larry Leitner of Indianapolis, Indiana and Dr. Terry Faidley and his wife Rachel of Colfax; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Ratcliff of Dallas Center, 19 grandchildren, six great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, son Robert, two grandchildren, Derek and Sonshine; two sisters, Leona Faidley and Carolyn Adair and two brothers, Durk Beintema and Chester Beintema.
