Franklin served as a Musician & Drummer, Company C, 4th Delaware Infantry during the Civil War.

He enlisted in the 4th Delaware at the age of 14 on June 24, 1862. It was noted that he resided in New Castle County, Delaware at the time of his enlistment.

Franklin "Died Of Disease" in a hospital in Alexandria, Virginia at the age of 15 during the war.

"He was the youngest soldier from Delaware to die during the Civil War !"
