Ethel Abram Chapple, the daughter of Jesse Abram and Viola Tuner, was born March 28, 1902 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. She was one of three children (she had 1 brother, Finis Abram and 1 sister, Evangeline Abram Norton). She moved to Houston, Texas during her young adult years. In Houston she met, Joseph Chapple, and married him in Bexar County, Texas on January 19, 1939. Joseph preceded her in death on August 27, 1966. She completed an evening Dressmaking Vocational Program on May 31, 1941 and became an excellent seamstress - sewing professionally for many years. She was a member of Duncan Memorial Church of God in Christ, in the Greater Fifth Ward community for many years until her death.
Ethel suffered a severe stroke in the mid 1970's which left her paralyzed, unable to walk and care for herself alone. Therefore, she was moved to the Watkins Convalescent Home where she received excellent nurses care until her death on April 28, 1983. Her funeral services were held on Sunday, May 1, 1983 at 1:30 PM at Duncan Memorial Church of God in Christ, 2222 Lockwood Drive, Houston, TX 77020; Elder Carter, Pastor, officiating. Her funeral arrangements were handled by Lockwood Funeral Home and she was interred in Golden Gate Cemetery, Sunday, May 1, 1983.
