His son, Ervin David Shaw, was for whom Shaw AFB was named. "Uncle Dave" moved from Alcolu to Sumter in 1909. A 1906 family photo of him in a new 1906 Buick with his children, HERE.

He owned lots of automobile dealerships & bought a hotel in Columbia. He was an elder in Concord Presbyterian Church, Sumter, S. C. His children were by way of his first marriage to Lula Alderman whose father was the founder of Alcolu, S. C. After their son (Ervin) died in action in WWI, family lore has it that Lula slowly grieved herself to death. Then he married Mrs. Luke Pryor (Lutte Blackwell Patton Pryer) and moved to Decatur, Alabama in 1930. In about 1941, he had some heart problems and then died suddenly at his home of a heart attack. Short obit. is in The State, 8 March 1942 p11A & long one in The Charleston News & Courier of 8 March 1942 page 2.
