Elton was born in Green Creek, Roane County, on June 3, 1911, to Arthur and Dovie Harper Taylor. He was married June 3, 1931, to Virginia Beth Hess who preceded him in death after 44 years of marriage.
Elton was retired from Taylor's Grocery. He was a longtime member of Oakridge Bible Church and attended Mount Moriah and taught Sunday school. Elton was an avid Bible scholar and loved to fish.
Elton was preceded in death by his five brothers, Delford, Matthew, Oral, Clifford and Joe; four sisters, Ada Clay, Sybil Davis, Naomi Pence and Mildred Mullins; and two daughters, Iris McLaughlin and Doris Butler.
Elton is survived by his son and two daughters; sisters, Garnet Summers and Tessie Myers; brother, Ivan Taylor; 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at Bartlett-Burdette-Cox Funeral Home with Pastor David Jones officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
