Stella Jeneva Jones was born June 8, 1906, to Oscar I. and Pernilla (Julson) Hendrikson of Northwood, Worth County, Iowa, and passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.

Stella was baptized at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Iowa. She was confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Wheeler, where she also attended Sunday school. Stella married Walter A. Jones on Dec. 23, 1929. They made their home in Boyceville, London, Minn., Deer Creek and Northwood, Iowa, and Lynwood, Calif. Stella and Walter had three children, Marian, Daryl and Marvel, and a foster son, Donald. Her faith and family kept her busy.

Upon Walter's retirement, they returned to Boyceville. After the death of her husband, Stella moved back to California. She returned to Wisconsin in April 2003 with her son and daughter-in-law.

Stella graduated from Tree Park Grade School and Boyceville High School. She furthered her education at Dunn County Normal in 1925. Upon Stella's graduation from Dunn County Normal, she held teaching positions in Prairie Farm, Hawthorne Country School in Boyceville, and St. Paul's Lutheran Elementary School in Lynwood. In later years, she taught Sunday school and eventually became the Sunday school superintendent. Stella was an active member in the Chino Valley Medical Center Auxiliary in Chino, Calif., for 12 years.


Stella is survived by a daughter, Marian Crapser of Apple Valley, Calif.; a son, Daryl (Cheryl) Jones of Downing; a daughter-in-law, Betty Hendrikson of Northwood; two sisters-in-law, Alma Jones of Downing and Mildred Hendrikson of Northwood; a first cousin, Mable Hoag of Boyceville; 23 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Stella was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Walter in 1986; her parents, Oscar and Pernilla Hendrikson; a daughter, Marvel Martin; a foster son, Donald Hendrikson; a grandson, Daryl Allen Weaver; a granddaughter, Rebecca Hendrikson; five brothers, Everett, Pearl, John, Hartwick and Sophus Hendrikson; and three sisters, Olga Prestegaard, Ida Cowles and Nina Behling.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in remembrance of Stella to Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 602 W. Main St., Wheeler, WI 54772, or the American Heart Association.

Funeral services were Saturday, March 31, 2007, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wheeler with Pastor Diane Norstad officiating. Burial was in Our Saviors Lutheran Church Cemetery.
