Born in Ohio, Edy's family moved to West Virginia. That is where she met and married her husband, who was from Pennsylvania, and together they raised their two sons during the great depression. Her oldest son served in the Navy during WWII and was stationed at NAS Jax. They relocated their family to the Jacksonville, Florida area in the early 1950s. She worked as a nurse's aid at the Bradford County Hospital in Starke, Florida after her husband passed away. In November of 1965 Edy was seriously injured in an automobile accident while on vacation in Pennsylvania. After about a year of recovery time, she came back to Florida to be close to her sons and grandchildren, however, she was unable to return to work.
