Married JAMES HUGHES CALLAHAN, March 26, 1843 and had six children.
At first buried in an unmarked grave near Blanco, Texas, the bodies of Sarah, her husband James Hughes Callahan, and their son William Milford Callahan were reinterred in the Texas State Cemetery in Austin, Texas, on January 24, 1931. The three Callahans were buried in one casket at the Texas State Cemetery in recognition of Captain Callahan's significant contributions to the State of Texas which started when he came to Texas in December 1835 as a soldier in the Georgia Battalion to help Texians fight for their independence from Mexico. In addition to being recognized for his service to the State of Texas by being buried in the Texas State Cemetery, the Texas State Legislature named Callahan County in his honor. Captain Callahan's story is the story of Texas.

The engraving on the headstone should read: James Hughes Callahan born in Jackson County, Georgia and died in 1856; Sarah Medissa (not Medisa) also died in 1856.
