Mr. Gilbert was born Sept. 24, 1936, in White County, to William H. "Bill" Gilbert and Willie Pearl Cope Gilbert.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his son, Billy Gilbert, of Sparta; several cousins and friends; and special friend, Philip Qualls, of Sparta.
Funeral service was 2 p.m., July 30, 2012, at Hunter Funeral Home.
