Gonzalo, 85, was born Jan. 10 1927 to Juan and Julia Vasquez in Goddard, Kansas. His father, a railroad worker, moved his family to California when Gonzalo was 4 years old. He attended country school and Barstow High School. When his father died in 1941, his mother brought her children to Barstow. He graduated in 1945, then was drafted in 1945 (Army) during World War II. He attended San Bernardino College for one year. He worked at the Marine Base in 1947 until 1982. After his retirement he and his wife, Isabel, who were married in 1953, went to work at St. Joseph Church as Religious Ed. Coordinator until 1991. Gonzalo enjoyed working in his yard and painting pictures. Gonzalo leaves his wife, Isabel of 58 years; son, John; brothers, John of San Jose, Donald, Percy; sisters, Augustina Lopez, Catherine Romero of Barstow and many nephews and nieces. Services will be held on Tuesday, July 31. 2012. Rosary at 9 a.m. Mass at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Graveside service will be Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 11:15 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetery. Published in the Daily Press on July 27, 2012.
