Olaf Berkedal, (photo) 86, of 2205 Fairmont St., Manitowoc, died Sunday,
December 28, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc.
The Rev. Bruce Hanstedt will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery,
Manitowoc. Military graveside rites will be accorded Mr. Berkedal by American
Legion Drews-Bleser Post No. 88 of Manitowoc.
Mr. Berkedal was born Oct. 27, 1894, at Manitowoc, son of Teryje and Mattie
Olson Berkedal. He was educated at Rockwood and was a veteran of World War I,
serving with Calvary Company H of Manitowoc. He married Myrtle Gunderson June 3,
1922, at Manitowoc. He was president of Berkedal and Shimek, Inc., starting in
1923. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, past member of the Brotherhood
of the church and the oldest lifetime member of the church. He was a member of
Eagles Aerie 706, and a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge 65 F and AM, American
Legion Drews-Bleser Post No. 88 and National Association of Tobacco
Distributers.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle, two sons, Robert and James Berkedal of
Manitowoc; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barba ra and Wilfred Krueger of
Manitowoc and Carol and Robert Carlson of Madison, Minn.; a brother and
sister-in-law, Edward and Irene Berkedal of Manitowoc; a sister and brother-
in-law, Bertha and Clarence Gesell of Two Rivers, 13 grandchildren and three
great grandchildren. Four sons and two brothers preceded him in death.
Friends may call at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and
at the church from noon Wednesday until the time of service. Memorials may be
made to First Lutheran Church, Christ Chruch of Compton, Calif., or American
Cancer Society.
