Glenn P. Berger, age 80, a resident of St. Mary's Home For the Aged, formerly
of the Manitou Manor, died Friday morning, February 2, 1996, at St. Mary's Home,
Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 5, 1996, at Holy
Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial
will be Rev. Gerald Foley with burial to follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, where
Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by the American Legion Drews-Bleser
Post #88.
He was born July 10, 1915, in Manitowoc, son of the late Anton and France Grahl
Berger. Glenn was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of
1933. During World War II he served with the United States Marine Corps as a
Master Sergeant and was awarded two purple hearts and a silver star metal. On
May 8, 1948, he married the former Elsie Swokoske Traurig, in Manitowoc. She
preceded him in death on January 31, 1991. Glenn was employed with the Casper
Construction Company for 25 years and then was employed with the McMullen and
Pitz Construction Company until his retirement in 19?8. He was a member of the
Holy Name Society of Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc, Senior Citizens,
a 50 year member of the Manitowoc Eagles Aerie #706, Local Carpenters Union,
American Legion Drews-Bleser Post #88 and served for 25 years with the United
States Army Reserves.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Sharon Berger, Rockford,
Ill.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Bill Bartleson, Two Rivers,
Joanne and James Olm, Manitowoc; four granddaughters, Chris and Denny Lizer, Kerry
and Steve MacDonald, Kim Kaminski and fiancé, Steve Wall, Julie Berger; one
grandson, Casey Berger and fiancée, Candy; two great-grandsons, Derek Hart and Eric
Lizer; special friend, Jan Rezachek; housepet, Mittens. Also surviving are nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by one brother
and one sister.
A private family visitation will be held Monday morning at the Pfeffer Funeral Home.
